What is a waybill?
A waybill is the document that records the carriage contract between the person sending goods and the company moving them. It states what is being sent, from where to where and to whom, and each shipment carries a unique number — the waybill number — by which its progress is followed.
Terms that are easily confused
- Waybill vs invoice
- An invoice records the price of the goods and the terms of the sale. A waybill records their movement. In international trade the commercial invoice is what duty is assessed on; the waybill is what tells you where the goods are.
- Domestic parcel number
- The 10 to 13 digit number a Korean courier assigns, printed on the label stuck to the box.
- HBL (House Bill of Lading)
- Issued by a forwarder to an individual shipper. Express and sea freight arriving from abroad is usually followed by an HBL number, which normally begins with H.
- MBL (Master Bill of Lading)
- Issued by the carrier to the forwarder. It covers the consignments of many shippers at once, so an individual cannot find their own parcel by this number.
- Order number
- The number the shop gave you when you bought the goods. It is not a waybill number, but this page accepts it as well.
- Personal customs clearance code
- A number beginning with P, issued by Korea Customs to an individual. It is not a waybill number; it identifies the person when goods are cleared.

A cross-border parcel changes number once
From abroad to Korean customs the shipment travels under its HBL number; once cleared, the leg to the door runs under a domestic courier's waybill number. Because the number changes, searching with only one of them makes the journey look as though it stopped halfway. This page shows both legs together.
Which numbers can I enter?
Hyphens and spaces are fine. Customs clearance and domestic delivery are shown together.
HBL number
The number beginning with H printed on the express waybill.
Order number
The order number from the shop where you bought the item, exactly as it appears.
Courier waybill number
The number the courier assigns once domestic delivery begins.
Express receipt number
Receipt numbers beginning with A also work.
